Urgent request for help - Sat 15 August - Castle Green

On Saturday 15 August Friends of Castle Green are are holding a joint event with the Three Choirs Festival "FESTIVAL FUN ON THE CASTLE GREEN". For the day to be a success, they need to be able to erect their small marquee. Normally they have a group of volunteers who do this for every event, but for this one, many of them are on holiday leaving them desperately short of willing hands. Please can any able bodied Friend who is free at 11am on Saturday 15th turn up and help?  The marquee is very well designed and is easily erected without any training and there will be a couple of experienced volunteers there to give direction as well as getting stuck in themselves. If you cannot make it at 11am please help take it down at 7pm that evening - or do both and stay for the fun inbetween!
They also need at least 6 people to steward the archery display at 3pm in the afternoon. Again, no experience necessary, this will simply be a crowd control role to ensure nobody gets hurt by flying arrows.

If you feel you can help please let Mark Hubbard know on 01432 272684 or by email mark.a.f.hubbard@btopenworld.com.

Help urgently needed for Castle Green Christmas Fayre 2006 - SUNDAY 17TH DECEMBER 10am - 4.3Opm

Help is desperately needed with next Sunday's Fayre. Specifically, the following jobs:

1) Set-up crew - able bodied helpers to put up stalls (trestle tables) in the marquee and gazebos around the marquee.  Help required at 8am on Sunday morning - at least 8 people needed.

2) Garland Makers - Come and help make a garland on Saturday 16th 2pm-4pm.  With enough helpers this is a quick and easy job - no experience required!  This adds hugely to the festive feel of the fayre - 8 volunteers needed to come to Castle Cliffe on Saturday afternoon at 2pm.

3)  Bucket shakers - we need to collect donations on the entrance to the marquee all day.  This is a free event to attend, but last year we made a loss of £500.  If eveyone who comes gives 50p - we would have broken even.  8 volunteers needed on the day.

4) Mulled Wine Servers - We make & serve mulled wine during the fayre.  This brings in very valuable income (& makes the day go with a swing!).  4 additional volunteers needed.

5) Bottle Stall Helpers - again valuable income to help run the event.  A bit like a tombola involving raffle tickets and bottles.  Full instructions given, no experience required!  ^ volunteers needed.

6)  Strike Crew - able bodied volunteers to take down stalls and stack the van with all the gear at 5pm when everything is over - at least 8 volunteers needed.

If you think you can help. please phone Mark Hubbard on 272096 and offer to do one of the above.

Castle Green Midsummer Fayre - Saturday 24 June

This year's Castle Green Midsummer Fayre looks set to be the biggest event yet staged by the Friends of Castle Green due to the very generous grant from the Park It! programme run by GreenSpace.

"We wanted to bring the history of Castle Green alive, so we applied for the money to set up a medieval village with costumed craft demonstrators
throughout the day. There will be fletching, patten making, basket-making, milling, large wheel spinning, herbalism, bow-making and men-at-arms all on the Castle Green for the first time in over 500 years!" said Mark Hubbard, Chair of the Friends.

"We have been overwhelmed by the number of people who come to our events, so this year we thought we would pull out all the stops to make the day a really exciting one for all the family. Music Pool, our local community music project, are helping with the music, Where Wild Things Play (Herefordshire Nature Trust) will run family activities, we are going to have a big craft and local produce market and Widemarsh Workshop will be running a cafe. A real community response!"

Other attractions include a free performance of Jack & the Beanstalk by Sealegs Theatre Co, free face painting, a bar serving local beer & cider and all manner of crafts & local food producers. Why not bring deckchairs or picnic rugs and plan to spend the whole day on the Green!

Put Saturday 24 June in your diary and show the City that we have a park worth celebrating!

Anyone wishing to book a stall please contact Rebecca Saunders on 01432 272605, but please hurry as they are selling fast! We are desperate for volunteers on the day to act as stewards, membership recruiters, raffle ticket sellers and the all important setting up and clearing away crews. Please contact Mark Hubbard on 01432 272096 if you can spare any time before, during or after the Fayre. More at www.friendsofcastlegreen.org.uk
